The Last One For Us!

SIDENOTE: A few months ago I started to work on this post, but didn't get past the title (i know, i'm embarrassingly slow) & accidentally published it -- just the title! It was only up for a day, but Heather, my sis-in-law, (who, incidentally, is much better about keeping her blog up-to-date...and well-written, I must add), was VERY alarmed. "What happened? Why are you quitting your blog?", she immediately worried, making me feel very loved :-) Well, it was all a boo boo, I explained. And see, here I am. Still here. However sporadically.

So, the 'last one for us' is NOT referring to the last POST, but the last

3RD GRADE ORANGE COUNTY PLAY!

Each of the Coe kids has enjoyed performing in this play (well, some more than others!) all about the history of the beautiful area in which we live.

Porter played the part of the Orange County Businessman, hence his snappy costume!! -- Here he is in the '09 OCPlay!

And, of course, Kenzie was first to perform it in 2000.

You may have noted that both Kenz & Abs were wearing the same costume. And if you're SUPER observant, you will notice that there was someone wearing it in Porter's play as well. This may be the most used & most loved & most borrowed costume of the century. It has been worn in EVERY OCPlay for the past 9 years, as well as an assortment of other events...so handy when you need to be Laura Ingalls or Helen Keller for your oral book report, or a pioneer girl for Halloween or the lead role in 'Gold Dust or Bust' . . .

. . . or even a if you have a small part in a church production called Aurelia in 1978! Yep, that's me in 8th grade modeling the costume my awesome Mom MADE for me for the play; and even a few swatches of the leftover fabric (that were rubber-cemented to the photo I tore out of my scrapbook; people didn't worry about acid-free scrapbooking supplies back then, among other things - like SEATBELTS - I will never forget bouncing over the seats from the back to the front & back again of our VW van while my mom was chauffeur-ing us kids all over town -- or flying out of my booster seat (no straps, just a booster, like at a restaurant) into the lap of one of he boys from the boys' home (my mom&dad were homeparents when I was 5) when my mom went over the railroad tracks WAY too fast. Woo hoo!!!

Oh goodness, I have seriously digressed)

So. Here's me in the costume.

And, if you're still reading, here's a little clip of Porter, dancing in the "Yipee Kai Yay" number about the cowboys & rancheros of . . . . you guessed it -- Orange County! (sure wish you could hear the bull snorting while he paws at the 'dirt' - but the darn singing drowns it out on my tape!)

Well . . .

. . . one CAN'T be angry forever

(it's just not healthy...or fun).

So I'm gonna need to update my blog

before all (4) of you think I am!

I know the bad guys will get their just reward

(or punishment) in the end,

and I don't need to be in charge (for once!).

Thanks for letting me open the valve & blow off some steam.

But . . . don't even get me started unleashing on the guys

who are letting AIR out of my sister's van tires, for heaven sakes.

Stung

To the deplorable human beings

who broke into my sister's home, trashed it

& helped themselves to her family's belongings:

You should be ashamed of yourselves.

To say the very least.

Stealing a laptop containing irreplaceable photos & videos?

Stealing the beloved Wii that my precious little niece

& nephews EARNED with hard work & good, kind,

responsible behavior over a period of MONTHS?

Stealing a child's peace of mind?

Really?

Imagine arriving home,

sleep deprived after a 17-hr flight with 4 little children,

to what you did.

With any luck, you'll get the chance to experience it.

Ashamed & staring at your feet, you should be.

Good Grief.

Well, as you can see, after a 2-month blog hiatus, I'm back.

Kinda sad . . . and sometimes mad . . . but back, nonetheless.

She shoots . . .

. . . SHE SCORES!!

Abbie had her first lacrosse game (actually scrimmage)

for MVHS against Trabuco Hills yesterday.

She's #8 and her preferred position is Attack Wing.

Her personal fan club

(i.e., mom, dad, porter, grandma & grandpa)

went C.R.A.Z.Y.

when she scored the first goal of the JV game!

Which is saying A LOT because,

not only was I on my best non-embarrassing behavior,

but we were sitting on the opposing team's side of the stadium -

(sorry, but it was stinkin' 90 degrees

and the sun was blazing over on the home team side;

we simply had to move to the shade)

Anyhoo . . . Go, Abbie!!

We couldn't be prouder!

Off to the Rose Bowl for next weekend's tournament!

She made the OCRegister too (4th pic, 2nd from R) . . .

but unfortunately

the article is about how lacrosse is slated to be canned

due to district budget cuts.

Our country's priorities are askew.

Who really thinks we can save ourselves

by cutting programs in schools?

So disheartening.

Net Minder?

The goalie on Porter's team couldn't take it any more.

Coach Tim asked Porter, who often plays defense,

to give it a go.

Porter didn't hesitate - "Sure, that'd be AWESOME!"

I'm not gonna lie. I was a bit worried.

That's a lot of pressure. And a lot of equipment.

Shouldn't he at least TRY . . . at PRACTICE first?

Who knows if he can even STAND UP in all that gear?

And, um, will I still enjoy watching his games?

So many unanswered questions . . .

but Porter wasn't concerned,

and neither was his coach.

Come 15 minutes early and we'll suit you up . . .

and that they did.

That's our goalie . . .

happy & SWEATY & quite LARGE after the game.

Note: he had to borrow a larger jersey as his was

nowhere NEAR large enough to streeeeetch

over his chest protection! (which, of course, I was glad

he was wearing, as the first puck hit him

square in the center of the chest. Thwunk!

I took a deep breath . . .

he giggled & used his oversized stick to sweep it away.)

We celebrated the team's victory, uh, well actually, loss,

at In 'N Out after the game.

As far as Porter was concerned, it was a victory,

'cuz it was SOOOOO FUN.

I'm still undecided.

P.S. Hockey Goalie gear smells reeeeeeally bad. When we sat down to dinner, I smelled FEET and realized it was Porter's HANDS. Ughhhhhh. All the fabreeze & baking soda & direct sunlight in the world doesn't make a bit of difference (on the gear...his hands cleaned up fine). I know, 'cuz I tried. Another strike against goalie-ing, in my book, which really doesn't matter, 'cuz it's not about me. I know.
